Wall Street, I'm sorry to say your 2023 bonus is already on some shaky ground. I realize we're not even halfway through the year, but after an awful first quarter, bonuses in plenty of areas of finance are trending in the wrong direction. It's a mixed bag, with some areas trending toward a double-digit percentage increase over 2022, while others are heading the opposite way. If that isn't a certainty, you can bet people, especially those earlier in their career, will look for greener pastures. CNN —Alex Pereira became the undisputed middleweight UFC champion on Saturday, defeating Israel Adesanya on a technical knock-out in front of a sold-out Madison Square Gardens in New York. And for much of the fight, it seemed as though Adesanya would achieve that record with Pereira languishing behind on the judges’ scorecards until the final round. But the Brazilian rallied and hit Adesanya with a flurry of shots in the fifth round to force a referee stoppage and a TKO victory. And the defending champion’s onslaught continued in the next three rounds, leaving Adesanya ahead on all three judges’ scorecards going into the fifth and final round. Aware that he needed to find the finish in the fifth round, Pereira unleashed all his power and Adesanya ultimately couldn’t offer a response.

CNN —The 2022 World Series is a classic case of overwhelming favorite against plucky underdog. The Astros’ only previous World Series win came when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017. “It is the World Series, it’s a big stage, but they have been loose the entire time through this whole process. The Philadelphia Phillies last won the World Series in 2008. Further back in 1929, the Philadelphia Athletics’ World Series win was followed by the Wall Street Crash.

Many Afro Latino players embrace Black identity, yet perhaps not for the same reasons that Black U.S. players do.
